I’m a Latina artist based in Seattle. I use my bold, ‘70s-inspired work as a tool to talk about things that are important to me, such as my Mexican heritage and existential feelings. When I’m not making art, you can find me eating my way through Seattle, tending to my growing plant collection and practicing my bass!

Artists Q & A

What did you get in trouble for as a kid? Anything adults told you to avoid that’s actually a big part of your life now?

I used to doodle on my high school math tests instead of finishing them, once I figured out I was gonna bomb the test. I never was a math whiz. Sorry, Mr. Tamanaha!

What’s your biggest art inspiration? This may not be visual. Like, anything!

Being alive! Existence is so wild and I’m so grateful to be a lil’ human on this planet and to experience so much. Every day is truly a gift. I love it here!

Where do you work? What’s your workspace like? Any objects you’ve had a long time?

I work in a corner of my tiny apartment, surrounded by lush plants, natural light, Mexican trinkets and lots of disco balls! I have a Mexican hand-painted skull that I’ve kept with me since college. I used it in one of my first big freelance projects and she’s been watching over me ever since.

When you get a new project from Blue Q, how do you begin? What’s the starting point?

LOTS of bad sketches. You have to get all your ideas out and onto paper (or in my case, my iPad). It can take some digging, but eventually we strike gold!

On a project, what’s the rush like when everything clicks?

Oh, it’s magic! It’s the best feeling. Seeing a project finally come together is so satisfying. It’s like solving a puzzle. One of the things I love about collaborating with Blue Q is that they might pull something out of me I didn’t even know I had in me. Each project is so different, the end result is always a pleasant surprise!
