Poster Journal is a public diary that blends wit, vulnerability and all-caps chaos into a bold, minimalist style that feels both nostalgic and timeless. Launched anonymously in 2020, it has become a loud, unfiltered voice in the art world—capturing the beautiful mess of being human and daring its followers to do the same. Its mission? To say what you’re thinking, so you don’t have to.
WHAT DID YOU GET IN TROUBLE FOR AS A KID? ANYTHING ADULTS TOLD YOU TO AVOID THAT’S ACTUALLY A BIG PART OF YOUR LIFE NOW?
Always “talks too much” and “distracts others” on the report cards. Constantly rearranging all the furniture. And a strange desire to simplify and throw away (BIG TROUBLE). Appears nothing has changed.
WHERE DO YOUR BEST IDEAS COME FROM? (DREAMS, SHOWER, MUSEUM, TRAIN?)
I’m not sure I have my ideas, I think they’re given to me. I don’t really understand meditation but I think that’s what I’m doing. Some friends have described it as channeling. I’m not quieting my mind, I’m watching it. Is it really “my” mind? If it is, who is putting the thoughts there? The ideas? I’m just the reporter, diligent and neurotic enough to write them down.
ANY ACTIVITIES, EXERCISES OR STRATEGIES TO PULL YOURSELF OUT OF THE OCCASIONAL ARTISTIC RUT?
When I’m dried up, bored, unmotivated, the best thing to do is get up, put on short shorts and walk to nowhere. Wander. Physically, psychically, emotionally. Sift through. Run amok. Toy with. Within 15 minutes a beautiful idea is delivered on a silver platter.
WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST ART INSPIRATION? THIS MAY NOT BE VISUAL. LIKE, ANYTHING!
I think the turmoil and drama and joy of my life is where it all comes from. I love when my life changes. Makes for excellent material.
ON A PROJECT, WHAT’S THE RUSH LIKE WHEN EVERYTHING CLICKS?
When I see a finished piece, or set of pieces that fit perfectly together, it’s pure euphoria, maniacal laughter, visions of applause, I take my bow, the usual.
